Phytosanitary Monitoring and Inspection Assessment for Certification

** Scroll down for the Phytosanitary Monitoring and Inspection Assessment for Certification Registration Form.

In order to mitigate the risks associated with exports to markets with particular phytosanitary concerns, the citrus industry has implemented management protocols and systems over the past few years. An essential element of these systems and protocols is the monitoring and inspection for infestation of pest insects that are of particular concern to sensitive export markets.

For the citrus industry, these pests are in particular false codling moth (FCM) and fruit fly. Farms and packhouses are responsible for appointing orchard monitors and packhouse inspectors, and for ensuring that they are trained to perform these duties.

It is essential that inspectors and monitors are able to conduct effective monitoring and inspection, that the levels of infestation in orchards are being monitored and reported accurately, and that incidents of infestation in the packhouse are promptly detected.

In order to address this need, the Citrus Academy, on request of and in collaboration with Citrus Research International (CRI), has developed an audio-visual module to be incorporated into an e-learning module.

This e-learning programme enables learners to complete an assessment to demonstrate their competence at monitoring and inspection.

The programme incorporates the following sections:

  • Introduction
  • Monitoring and Inspections
  • Biology and Life Cycle
  • Orchard Monitoring Procedures
  • Packhouse Delivery Inspections
  • Packhouse Online Grading
  • Conclusion
